What
are the Specific Degree Requirements for the IDS major?
1. The General
Education Program requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree as specified
in the General Catalog.
2. Two of the three subject areas must be from single disciplines. The third area may be selected from any of the colleges at UA and can be discipline specific or form a “theme” from across disciplines.
3. A minimum
of 21 units is required in each subject area, including 12 upper-division
units per subject area.
4. A minimum
of 42 upper-division units, including 36 in the major.
5. Elective
courses to complete a minimum of 120 units required for the degree.
6. A minimum
GPA of 2.0 in each of the three subject areas, as well as a minimum cumulative
GPA of 2.0.
7. A maximum
of 9 units of independent study or internship among the 3 subject areas,
with no more than 6 units in a single subject area.
8. A maximum
of 6 units from Tier II of General Education may be counted in the major.
No units from Tier I may be counted in the major.
9. At least
one Writing Emphasis course in course work proposed.
10. The following
may not be used in the major: freshman composition, the first year of
a foreign language (except for Greek, American Indian languages, languages
taught within the Near Eastern Studies, East Asian Studies, and Judaic
Studies Depts.), math courses below Math 124, military aerospace studies,
military science, and naval science.
11. The disciplines
used in the major may not count toward a second degree or double major.
