Associate Media Relations Director

1) What is your position title and what are your job responsibilities?

Associate Media Relations Director. I handle all of the media-related activities (press releases, stats, web management, interviews, etc) for the UA men's basketball and golf teams, while assisting with many of the others.

2) How did you prepare for the work you do? What did you major in? Do you have a graduate degree? Any other special training or experience that helped?

The best thing is to hang around the team ... be at practices ... know what's going on. Also, you spend a lot of time going over statistics looking for trends, writing notes. I was a P.E./Journalism major at Indiana University. I pursued a graduate degree, but left before completion for a full-time job. There is no substitue for practical experience and as much as you can get.

3) Any recommendations to students interested in the kind of work you do?

You must be able to communicate both written and orally. Also, find what it is you love to do and pursue that.
