Randy Cohen
Director C.A.T.S. Athletic Treatment Center

1) What is your position title and what are your job responsibilities?

I am the Director of Medical Services and I coordinate the medical care for the student athletes. As an athletic trainer we are responsible for the evaluation, prevention and care of athletically related injuries.

2) How did you prepare for the work you do? What did you major in? Do you have a graduate degree? Any other special training or experience that helped?

You need a degree in athletic training. This can be done as an undergraduate degree (U of A does not offer the degree, NAU is the only state school with the degree) or as an entry level masters degree. Graduate work is a must. A Masters in a related field is very helpfull such as Nutrition, Sports Administration, Physical Therapy etc.

3) Any recommendations to students interested in the kind of work you do?

Get some experience in athletics either at a local high school, junior college or here. This field is long hours and it is a service profession. That is something you need to be prepared for and understand going in.

4) Would you be willing to have a student contact you with his/her questions?

Yes, email rpcohen@arizona.edu
