CAREERS . . . Some people believe that for every career goal there is a specific major that corresponds directly with it. While some majors are certainly preparation for a specific type of job (i.e. engineering or nursing) - others teach a set of skills that can apply to many jobs. What you choose to study will not necessarily determine what sort of job you can obtain, and research has shown that most graduates are working in career fields that do not directly relate to their undergraduate program of study. If you don't have a specific career in mind, you should make your choice of major based on an interest in a particular discipline (for example: biology, political science, or anthropology). If you have a particular career in mind, it may help to research the kinds of skills and/or majors employers in those industries typically look for. Ask yourself:

CAREER SERVICES The Career Services office here on campus offers both individual appointments to discuss career choice as well as a Career Information Library where you can research career materials. Career Connections is a network of UA alumni who have offered to talk with UA students or fellow UA alumni about their career fields. This is not a listing of jobs. It is a network for providing information to help those who are in the process of choosing a career field or making a career transition.
