Stop and think about it. When is the last time you actually sat down and thought about your interests or wrote them down?  It seems simple but the exercise of identifying what really interests you is a crucial first step in this process.  Here are some helpful ways you can do this:

If you'd like to being the process on your own, we suggest you start with DISCOVER, (see login instructions below) a free and wonderful online resource you can access 24 hours a day once you've logged in. It allows you to research majors, careers and take an interest, ability and value inventory. You should then come in to talk with your advisor about your results so you can understand how they may relate to choosing a major.

First, take the inventories on DISCOVER. What are some of the career areas that were suggested based on your interests, abilities and values results:

You can click on any of these areas in your Summary page and information about that area, including related jobs and the education and training needed to pursue that field. Spend some time exploring and keep an open mind. You are just beginning and it's important to remember that you are gathering information that can be analyzed later in the process.

Another great thing about DISCOVER is that your results are saved indefinitely so you can go back and login anytime during your college career!
