2007-08 Probation/Disqualification/Readmission Information 2006-2007 Probation/Disqualification/Readmission Information Probation Students not meeting the standards of normal progress (2.00 or above) have earned academic probation status. Students on academic probation are subject to such restrictions with respect to courses and extracurricular activities as may be imposed by the Director of University College. Students are removed from probation upon achieving Good Academic Standing, i.e., earning a minimum cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) of a 2.00 Probationary students are expected to be active participants in academic assistance to prevent their disqualification. All University College students on academic probation are required to meet with their advisor to discuss academic strategies and to sign an academic contract. The contract will stipulate the minimum progress the students must make in order to continue their enrollment in University College. If they do not meet these conditions, they will, in all likelihood face University disqualification. Any courses for future terms in which the student is enrolled at the time of disqualification will be dropped (see University Disqualification). Students are also encouraged to discuss their academic situation with advisors for potential majors to find out what steps they must take in order to declare that major. If students choose to be non-participants in this assistance and do not sign a contract, they will still be held to academic standards, which will be sent via letter and email to the student. Again, if the students do not meet these conditions, they will, in all likelihood face University disqualification. Complete withdrawal from a semester will not necessarily prevent a student's disqualification, as students are expected to make academic progress each semester.
University Disqualification: A student who receives University disqualification is unable to register for future terms at the University of Arizona. Any courses for future terms in which the student is enrolled at the time of disqualification will be dropped. Students who have been disqualified from the University may not take University of Arizona courses for credit or establish credit by examination during their periods of disqualification, although they may continue to work with instructors in classes in which they have received grades of "Incomplete".
Probation or Disqualification by Special Action: Upon recommendation of the dean of the college, a student may be placed on academic probation or may be disqualified at any time for neglect of academic work. Petition of Disqualification Petitions are accepted within a small window of time following spring semester. Any students disqualified by their college after spring semester are eligible to petition University College for consideration of immediate admission. These students must have experienced extenuating circumstances (e.g. family death, medical or psychological conditions) that can be documented by a third party. Petitions must have documentation to be accepted for consideration. If the petition is approved, the student will be placed on contract by University College. If denied, the disqualification will stand. Please contact University College for petition deadlines. Readmission Once a student has been disqualified or leaves on academic probation, there is no guarantee of readmission by University College or any other academic unit at the University of Arizona. The disqualified student may apply for consideration to return to University College only after the student has earned a minimum of a 3.00 with 24 academic, transferable units earned at another institution. All grades previously earned at the University of Arizona are retained in the student's record indefinitely, consequently, a readmitted student is required to complete an academic contract, which will be in effect until the student attains good standing.
